The NI Sound and Vibration Toolkit includes a collection of VIs that you can use to perform typical measurements for audio, acoustic, or vibration applications. The Sound and Vibration Toolkit also includes the NI Sound and Vibration Assistant. The NI Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite provides order analysis functionality for the Sound and Vibration Assistant and LabVIEW in addition to the Sound and Vibration Toolkit. The Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite also provides additional functionality in LabVIEW such as human vibration filters, sound quality measurements, torsional vibration measurements, and custom displays.
Use the Sound and Vibration Toolkit or the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite to perform the following sound and vibration measurements:
- Scaling a signal to engineering units
- Calibrating a measurement channel
- Applying weighting filters
- Integrating time-domain signals
- Performing level measurements
- Performing fractional-octave analysis
- Performing frequency analysis
- Performing single-tone measurements
- Performing distortion analysis
- Performing swept-sine measurements
- Processing tachometer signals
- Performing order analysis
- Performing fault detection
- Measuring torsional vibration
- Performing transient analysis
- Performing limit and mask testing
- Displaying results
- Loading or saving signals to UFF58 (universal file format) files
The Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite includes the following new features in LabVIEW.
Sound Quality VIs
Use the Sound Quality VIs to perform sound quality measurements, including stationary loudness, time-varying loudness, sharpness, roughness, fluctuation strength, and tonality.
Machine Vibration VIs and Plots
Use the Machine Vibration VIs and plots to measure and display vibration data. Express VIs allow you to perform configuration-based analysis such as order tracking. Sophisticated controls allow you to visualize the vibration data on industry-standard plots, including Bode, polar, orbit, timebase, and shaft centerline plots.
TDMS File I/O VIs
Use the TDMS File I/O VIs to read data from, and write data to, .tdms files.
Support for Multiple Versions of LabVIEW
You can use the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite with LabVIEW 8.2.x, 8.5.x, or 8.6.x.
Support for Licensing
All VIs are licensed using the NI License Manager.
To run the Sound and Vibration Toolkit or the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite, your computer must meet the following minimum system requirements:
- Windows Vista/XP/2000
- Minimum of 1 GB of RAM
- Pentium 4/M or equivalent processor
- LabVIEW 8.2.x or later Full Development System or Professional Development System installed and properly licensed
- NI-DAQmx 8.5 or later installed for NI-DAQmx support
You must be logged in with administrator privileges to install the Sound and Vibration Toolkit or the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite. Note the following considerations when installing these products.
- If you installed LabVIEW 8.2.x, 8.5.x, and/or 8.6.x, you can install the Sound and Vibration Toolkit simultaneously to any or all of these versions of LabVIEW.
- You cannot install the Sound and Vibration Toolkit 7.0 on a computer that has the Order Analysis Toolkit 2.1 or earlier installed. You must purchase and install the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite 7.0 to use order analysis functionality with the Sound and Vibration Toolkit 7.0.
Complete the following steps to install the Sound and Vibration Toolkit or the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite:
- Remove any previously installed versions of the Sound and Vibration Toolkit, the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite, or the Order Analysis Toolkit.
- Insert the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite media into the appropriate drive of the computer. If the startup screen does not appear, use Windows Explorer to run the autorun.exe program located in the top-level folder on the installation media.
- Follow the setup instructions that appear on the screen.
- Restart the computer.
- Activate your LabVIEW products using the NI License Manager.
Refer to the Known Issues section of this document for installation known issues.
If you want to redistribute executables built with the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite or any of its components, you must purchase the appropriate NI Sound and Vibration Software Run-Time License. The part number for the NI Sound and Vibration Software Run-Time License is 779875-01. Contact National Instruments to purchase the NI Sound and Vibration Software Run-Time License.
The version of LabVIEW in which you install the Sound and Vibration Toolkit 7.0 or the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite 7.0 determines the way in which you can access the help.
LabVIEW 8.5 or later
Refer to the LabVIEW Help, accessible by selecting Help»Search the LabVIEW Help in LabVIEW, for information about the Sound and Vibration VIs.
LabVIEW 8.2.x
Select Help»Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite Help in LabVIEW for information about the Sound and Vibration VIs.
Note: The Sound and Vibration Concepts book contains the contents of the LabVIEW Sound and Vibration Analysis User Manual that ships with the Sound and Vibration Toolkit 5.0 and the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite 5.0. The Sound and Vibration Toolkit 7.0 and the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite 7.0 no longer provide the LabVIEW Sound and Vibration Analysis User Manual.
You can find LabVIEW examples for the Sound and Vibration VIs using the NI Example Finder. Select Help»Find Examples to launch the NI Example Finder. You also can click the Find Examples link in the Getting Started window to launch the NI Example Finder.
Use the Browse or Search page of the NI Example Finder to find an example VI. On the Browse page, the Sound and Vibration example VIs are located in the Toolkits and Modules»Sound and Vibration folder.
The following list describes known issues at the time of release.
- The S&V Express Measurements Express VIs might run slowly or fail to load. Refer to the Knowledge Base (4F8EJ09S) at ni.com for a workaround.
- If you install the evaluation version of the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite 7.0 on the same computer as a licensed version of 6.0, the license for 6.0 expires after the evaluation period for version 7.0 ends. Workaround: Uninstall the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite versions 6.0 and 7.0. Install and activate version 6.0.
- When working with waterfall and octave graphs, the undo chain might not work correctly.
- Entering values in the cursor legend of a Colormap will crash LabVIEW 8.6.
- After upgrading from the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite 5.0 to 7.0 in LabVIEW 8.2.1, LabVIEW cannot find some VIs in Case structures.
- If you install the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suit 7.0 for LabVIEW 8.5.1 and load a VI saved with a previous version of the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite, LabVIEW searches for missing VIs. Workaround: Clicking the Cancel button on this dialog box will load the VIs correctly.
- In LabVIEW 8.6, using <Ctrl-C> and <Ctrl-V> to copy and paste a Sound and Vibration plot will remove some of the plot properties. Workaround: Copy the plot by selecting the plot, pressing the <Ctrl> key, and clicking and dragging the plot.
- If you install the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite 7.0 for LabVIEW 8.6 and then load example VIs that shipped with either the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite 4.0 or 5.0, LabVIEW searches for missing VIs. Workaround: Clicking the Cancel button on this dialog box will load the VIs correctly.
Waterfall and Colormap Displays
- To color the 3D box decoration of Waterfall graphs and Octave Waterfall graphs, you must paint behind the two transparent graphs. If you color the hidden graphs, you cannot save those colors and the graphs return to transparent the next time you open the VI. Paint the bottom right corner of the decoration to ensure proper coloring of the decoration.
- The shortcut menu of the Waterfall graph and the Octave Waterfall graph might seem unresponsive when the VI is running. Continual selection of the menu item eventually executes the selection.
- The Waterfall graph, Octave Waterfall graph, and Colormap indicators might take some time to load when you use them for the first time. Click the indicator on the Sound & Vibration palette, wait until the dashed outline of the indicator appears, then click the front panel. The dashed outline appears when LabVIEW finishes loading the indicator.
UFF58 File I/O
- If you write to two UFF58 files in a loop or in two different VIs without changing the names of the files, LabVIEW returns error -2570, and you cannot flush data back to disk.
General
- If you have an application that uses the SVT Integration (frequency) VI that ships with the Sound and Vibration Toolkit 2.0 and the Sound and Vibration Toolkit 3.0, the application is broken in the Sound and Vibration Toolkit 7.0. To fix the application, replace the SVT Integration (frequency) VI with the SVL Integration (frequency) VI and reconnect the input and output terminals.
- The Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite does not support the OAT Extract Most Significant Order Waveforms VI, the OAT Extract Order Waveforms VI, or the OAT Tachless Speed Profile Generator VI on a VxWorks Real-Time target.
- If you open an Order Tracking Express VI saved in the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite 5.0 and generate code, the wire to the error in control is broken. You must re-wire the error in control.
- If you install the Sound and Vibration Toolkit or the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite in LabVIEW 8.2.1 and access the help by selecting Help»Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite Help in LabVIEW, the buttons for opening example VIs in the help do not work. To use these buttons, access the help by opening svmain.chm from the labview\help directory.
