Overview

The NI Sound and Vibration Toolkit includes a collection of VIs that you can use to perform typical measurements for audio, acoustic, or vibration applications. The Sound and Vibration Toolkit also includes the NI Sound and Vibration Assistant. The NI Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite provides order analysis functionality for the Sound and Vibration Assistant and LabVIEW in addition to the Sound and Vibration Toolkit. The Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite also provides additional functionality in LabVIEW such as human vibration filters, sound quality measurements, torsional vibration measurements, and custom displays.

Use the Sound and Vibration Toolkit or the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite to perform the following sound and vibration measurements:

New Features

The Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite includes the following new features in LabVIEW.

Sound Quality VIs

Use the Sound Quality VIs to perform sound quality measurements, including stationary loudness, time-varying loudness, sharpness, roughness, fluctuation strength, and tonality.

Machine Vibration VIs and Plots

Use the Machine Vibration VIs and plots to measure and display vibration data. Express VIs allow you to perform configuration-based analysis such as order tracking. Sophisticated controls allow you to visualize the vibration data on industry-standard plots, including Bode, polar, orbit, timebase, and shaft centerline plots.

TDMS File I/O VIs

Use the TDMS File I/O VIs to read data from, and write data to, .tdms files.

Support for Multiple Versions of LabVIEW

You can use the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite with LabVIEW 8.2.x, 8.5.x, or 8.6.x.

Support for Licensing

All VIs are licensed using the NI License Manager.

System Requirements

To run the Sound and Vibration Toolkit or the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite, your computer must meet the following minimum system requirements:

Installation Instructions

You must be logged in with administrator privileges to install the Sound and Vibration Toolkit or the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite. Note the following considerations when installing these products.

Complete the following steps to install the Sound and Vibration Toolkit or the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite:

  1. Remove any previously installed versions of the Sound and Vibration Toolkit, the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite, or the Order Analysis Toolkit.
  2. Insert the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite media into the appropriate drive of the computer. If the startup screen does not appear, use Windows Explorer to run the autorun.exe program located in the top-level folder on the installation media.
  3. Follow the setup instructions that appear on the screen.
  4. Restart the computer.
  5. Activate your LabVIEW products using the NI License Manager.

Refer to the Known Issues section of this document for installation known issues.

Redistributing Sound and Vibration Executables

If you want to redistribute executables built with the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite or any of its components, you must purchase the appropriate NI Sound and Vibration Software Run-Time License. The part number for the NI Sound and Vibration Software Run-Time License is 779875-01. Contact National Instruments to purchase the NI Sound and Vibration Software Run-Time License.

Accessing the Help

The version of LabVIEW in which you install the Sound and Vibration Toolkit 7.0 or the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite 7.0 determines the way in which you can access the help.

LabVIEW 8.5 or later

Refer to the LabVIEW Help, accessible by selecting Help»Search the LabVIEW Help in LabVIEW, for information about the Sound and Vibration VIs.

LabVIEW 8.2.x

Select Help»Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite Help in LabVIEW for information about the Sound and Vibration VIs.

Note: The Sound and Vibration Concepts book contains the contents of the LabVIEW Sound and Vibration Analysis User Manual that ships with the Sound and Vibration Toolkit 5.0 and the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite 5.0. The Sound and Vibration Toolkit 7.0 and the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite 7.0 no longer provide the LabVIEW Sound and Vibration Analysis User Manual.

Finding Examples

You can find LabVIEW examples for the Sound and Vibration VIs using the NI Example Finder. Select Help»Find Examples to launch the NI Example Finder. You also can click the Find Examples link in the Getting Started window to launch the NI Example Finder.

Use the Browse or Search page of the NI Example Finder to find an example VI. On the Browse page, the Sound and Vibration example VIs are located in the Toolkits and Modules»Sound and Vibration folder.

Known Issues

The following list describes known issues at the time of release.
