What Do I Need to Build a Stand-Alone Application Using LabVIEW

Issue Details

• I need to build a LabVIEW application and distribute it to various computers. Can I build a stand-alone executable from my VIs? If so, What LabVIEW version do I need?
• I believe I should be able to build applications with my version of LabVIEW, but when I try creating a new application from Build Specifications in my project, I'm unable to do so. How do I enable this feature?
• I have LabVIEW Full Development System. How can I create an executable without NI Application Builder?
• Do I need Application Builder to build a LabVIEW executable?
• Can I build a LabVIEW executable using an Evaluation license?

Solution

In order to build an application (i.e., create a stand-alone executable) from your LabVIEW VIs, you must have a licensed version of the Application Builder add-on. LabVIEW Professional Development Systems ships with the Application Builder.
Note: Please note that moving forward from LabVIEW 2022 Q3 you can only purchase LabVIEW Application Builder via LabVIEW Professional Development System, however, if you are using an older version than LabVIEW 2022 Q3 a separate license of LabVIEW Application Builder will allow you to activate this software product.

To confirm that you have a licensed copy of Application Builder, open NI License Manager and under modules, look for a green colored square on the left of Application Builder as shown below:
 

If you do not see a green icon next to Application Builder and believe you should have access to this feature you can right click on it and select Activate.
If you are unable to activate it, check the NI Product Activation page to try generating an activation code for LabVIEW Application Builder using your serial number.
