Issue Details

I am using my USRP-RIO with LabVIEW Communications, and I see that my measurements are working properly. However, the front panel LEDs for RX and TX are not illuminating. Why?

Solution

The LEDs on the front panel of a USRP-RIO are controlled by FPGA. With default bitfiles and LabVIEW examples using the NI-USRP driver, they illuminate when data is transmitted or received.

LabVIEW Communications example projects and Application Framework utilize the FPGA to do onboard data processing, Overwriting the default bitfiles with one from LabVIEW Communications 2.0 or earlier removes the LED activity, but does not affect overall functionality.

LED behavior can be customized with LabVIEW Communications by using the LED Node within your custom FPGA code.
