Installing NI VMS

Installing NI VMS

Complete the following steps to install NI VMS:

  1. Install any application environments in which you use NI VMS. You can use NI VMS in NI TestStand or LabVIEW.
  2. Insert the NI VMS media. The NI VMS installer should open automatically. If not, select Start»Run, and enter x:\setup.exe, where x is the letter of the media drive.
  3. Follow the instructions in the installation prompts. (Windows 7/Vista) You might see access and security messages during installation. Accept the prompts to complete the installation.

Installing support for analog video acquisition

If you want to acquire analog video using the VideoMUX or VideoCTU, complete the following additional steps:

Note Note:  The NI VideoCTU is an obsolete product, although support code for it still exists. NI recommends that you migrate your system to use the NI VideoMUX instead.
  1. (Upgrade only) If you are upgrading from any version of VideoMASTER or NI VMS earlier than NI VMS 3.1, complete the following steps to uninstall the USB driver for the NI VideoMUX or NI VideoCTU installed with NI VMS 3.0.2 or earlier. If you are installing NI VMS for the first time, proceed to step 2.
    Note Note:  You will not be able to associate your hardware with the new driver if the old USB driver is still present in the system.
    1. Power off and disconnect the NI VideoMUX or NI VideoCTU from the computer.
    2. Log in to the computer as an administrator.
    3. Select Start»Control Panel to open the Windows Control Panel.
    4. Select Programs and Features.
    5. Right-click microLEX Systems Video Synch Extractor USB Driver, then select Uninstall.
  2. To associate the USB driver with your NI VideoMUX or NI VideoCTU using the driver files installed with NI VMS, complete the following steps:
    1. Power off the NI VideoMUX or NI VideoCTU and the computer.
    2. Connect the NI VideoMUX or NI VideoCTU to an available USB port on the computer.
    3. Power on the NI VideoMUX or NI VideoCTU and the computer. Windows identifies the NI VideoMUX or NI VideoCTU as an unknown device.
      Note Note:  Windows also detects the Video Sync Extractor, a component of the NI VideoMUX and the NI VideoCTU, as an unknown device.
    4. Right-click NI VideoMUX or NI VideoCTU and select Update Driver Software.
    5. Install the USB driver in one of the following directories:
      • (32-bit operating systems) Program Files\National Instruments\NI VMS\VideoMUX
      • (64-bit operating systems) Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\NI VMS\VideoMUX
    6. Click Next. If a dialog box appears with the message, "Driver did not pass Windows logo test," click Continue or Run Anyway.
    7. Click Finish.
  3. Repeat step 2d to step 2g for the Video Sync Extractor.
