Problem: Why do I get an "unhandled exception" when I compile my CAN project in Visual C++ 6.0? Solution: If you upgrade to Visual C++ 6.0, then you may find that passing a string literal, such as "CAN0", results in an "unhandled exception" error in the nican.dll. This only happens, if you compile your application as a debug version. This problem does not show up, if you compile your application as a release version. This problem is fixed with NI-CAN version 1.5 or later. Follow the provided link and download the latest version of NI-CAN.
