Fix for Multiple Numeric Limit Test Status in TestStand 2.0.1

Primary Software: TestStand
Primary Software Version: 2.0.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software:

Problem: National Instruments is committed to product quality and customer satisfaction. As part of our commitment to customer satisfaction we want to ensure your success with our products by delivering industry leading support and immediate information regarding potential issues that may affect you. We would like to inform you of a recently discovered issue in TestStand 2.0.1 that may affect the integrity your test results.

When a TestStand 2.0 sequence using instances of the Multiple Numeric Limit Test step type is executed and saved in TestStand 2.0, the string value of "Passed" or "Failed" is saved in the Status Expression for each instance of the Multiple Numeric Limit Test step type. When the sequence file is opened and executed in TestStand 2.0.1, the results of the Multiple Numeric Limit Test steps do not change from the last step results that occurred when executing the sequence in TestStand 2.0.

Therefore, if an instance of a Multiple Numeric Limit Test passed during the last execution of the sequence file in TestStand 2.0, then all instances of the Multiple Numeric Limit Test will pass when executed in TestStand 2.0.1 regardless of whether the test results were outside the specified limits. It is important to note that the test report will show the correct limits and measured values. Two potentially critical situations that could occur include products passing the Multiple Numeric Limit test that actually failed the test and products failing the Multiple Numeric Limit test that actually passed the test.

Solution: This issue only affects TestStand users who meet both of the following criteria:

  1. You are using sequence files with instances of the Multiple Numeric Limit Test that were saved in TestStand 2.0; and
  2. You have recently upgraded these sequence files from TestStand 2.0 to TestStand 2.0.1.
If this issue affects you, we encourage you to download the readme.txt and the ts2.0.1f1_patch.zip files (linked below) to resolve this problem. To prevent others from encountering this issue in the future, we are creating a new TestStand Development CD, TestStand 2.0.1f1, which will be sent to all existing TestStand 2.0.1 and Developer Suite Test Edition customers within the next 3 to 4 weeks. The new TestStand 2.0.1f1 CD will also be sent to all existing and future orders for TestStand 2.0.1 as soon as it becomes available.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter. We remain committed to your success and will continue to inform you of any potential issues that may affect you in the future. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Richard McDonell at (512) 683-5880 or richard.mcdonell@ni.com.
