What changes were made from one version of NI-DAQ for MacOS to the next?

Solution:
This document gives a brief revision history of NI-DAQ for MacOS, beginning with NI-DAQ 4.8.7, the oldest currently available version.

Note: If you are using NuBus or LC PDS-based devices, programming on a 680x0-based Mac, or need to use the DAQ API, you must use NI-DAQ 4.x.x. National Instruments recommends NI-DAQ 4.9.4. If you are using LabVIEW on a PowerMac, NI recommends that you use NI-DAQ 6.6.1 or later.

Version History for NI-DAQ 4.x

Use NI-DAQ 4.x.x if you need to use the NI-DAQ API for programming in a language other than LabVIEW, if you are using a 680x0 Macintosh, or if you have a NuBus or LC PDS-based Macintosh.

  • NI-DAQ 4.8.7
    The DAQ API is updated from earlier versions. You must recompile any API code written prior to NI-DAQ 4.8.7 to work properly in 4.8.7 or later.

  • NI-DAQ 4.9.0 through 4.9.2
    No new functionality was added in versions 4.9.0–4.9.2.

  • NI-DAQ 4.9.3
    This version adds support for the following computers:

    • Black and White G3 Power Macintosh
    • G3 PowerBook (bronze keyboard)
    • G4 Macintosh with Yikes motherboard. This G4 does not have an AGP (Advanced Graphics Port) slot.

  • NI-DAQ 4.9.4
    Version 4.9.4 adds support for the G4 Macintosh with the Sawtooth motherboard. These G4s have an AGP slot. This is the most recent NI-DAQ version to support the following DAQ and computer hardware:

    • LC PDS-based devices
    • NuBus boards
    • Macintoshes using 680x0-series processors (all Macintoshes prior to the Power Mac)

    Version 4.9.4 is also the most recent version to export the NI-DAQ API for programming in environments other than LabVIEW.


Version History for NI-DAQ 6.x

Use NI-DAQ 6.x.x if you are not using a 680x0 Macintosh, and you do not need access to the NI-DAQ API. NI recommends NI-DAQ 6.6.0 for Power Macintosh users programming in LabVIEW.
  • NI-DAQ 6.0
    The more versatile NI-DAQ Configuration Utility replaced the NI-DAQ Control Panel for configuring and troubleshooting DAQ board installations. Also, the Channel Wizard was added in 6.0. You can use this utility to assign names to particular DAQ channels and perform mathematical scaling operations on incoming data before passing it to LabVIEW.

  • NI-DAQ 6.1
    This version adds support for the PCI-611xE simultaneous sampling DAQ boards. It also exports SCXI support for third party developers of new SCXI modules. Refer to the NI-DAQ 6.1 Release Notes for MacOS for more information.

  • NI-DAQ 6.1.1
    This version adds support for calibration of PCI-1200 and DAQCard-1200 devices.

  • NI-DAQ 6.1.2
    This version adds support for PCI-1200 devices using 2 KB FIFOs.

  • NI-DAQ 6.1.3
    This version adds support for the following devices:

    • G4 Macintosh with Yikes motherboard. This G4 does not have an AGP slot.
    • Black and white G3 machines
    • PowerBook G3 (bronze keyboard)
    • PCI-4451 and PCI-4452 Dynamic Signal Analyzer

  • NI-DAQ 6.1.4

    This version adds support for the G4 Macintosh with the Sawtooth motherboard. These machines include an AGP slot for the video card.

  • NI-DAQ 6.6.0

    This version adds support for the following DAQ devices:

    • Low Cost E Series—PCI-6023E, PCI-6024E, PCI-6034E, PCI-6035E
    • Full E Series—PCI/PXI-6052E
    • Analog Output—PCI-6703, PCI/PXI-6704, PCI/PXI-6711, PCI/PXI-6713
    • Counter/Timers—PCI-6601, PCI/PXI-6602
    • Digital I/O—PCI-6503

  • NI-DAQ 6.6.1
    This version adds functionality to previously supported DAQ devices. Refer to the the README file at the Drivers and Updates link below for more information.



Version History for NI-DAQmx Base, DAQ 7.x, and MAC OS X

For Mac OS X, National Instruments offers the NI-DAQmx Base driver. NI-DAQmx Base offers Mac OS X users an innovative programming interface similar to NI-DAQmx.     This version provides support for the following DAQ devices:

    • NI 6508/DIO-96 devices (PCI/PXI)

    • NI 671x/673x (PCI/PXI only)
    • NI USB-9211
    • NI USB-9215
    • NI USB-6008
    • NI USB-6009
