Can I Install an AT-MXI-2 on a Machine Running Windows 98? Hardware: VXI/VME/MXI>>MXI Interfaces>>AT-MXI-2
Problem: Can I install an AT-MXI-2 on a machine running Windows 98? Solution: Yes. The release note linked below discusses the procedure for installing the AT-MXI-2 under Windows 95, and this procedure also works well for Windows 98 with a couple of modifications. The set of drivers you'll need can be found at the Drivers and Downloads link below. You will need two drivers to make the device work. The first is NI-VXI for Win3.x/DOS version 1.5. The second is the 'thunker' driver for Windows 95/98. This second driver converts from the 32-bit OS to the 16-bit driver. Next, follow the steps in the release note. When you get to step 3 in the note, you will actually have to install the device as an "Unsupported Device". To do this, when the "Add New Hardware" Wizard pops up choose "Next" and click on the "Display a list of all drivers in a specific location..." control. Next choose "Other devices" and "Next" and then "Unsupported Device" and choose "Next". Windows will give you a warning that the driver was not written specifically for this device. Disregard this warning and finish the install. When you reach step 7 install the NI-VXI driver you downloaded and then install the thunker. You can follow the rest of the release note instructiosn as they are written. Once you have completed the install, run "VXIinit" to initialize the AT-MXI-2 board. You should now be able to run resman successfully to properly configure your VXI system.
