PXI/SCXI Combination Chassis SCXI Configurations
Hardware: Multifunction DAQ (MIO)>>E Series, SCXI>>Chassis, Multifunction DAQ (MIO)>>M Series, PXI/CompactPCI>>Chassis>>PXI-1010, PXI/CompactPCI>>Chassis>>PXI-1011, PXI/CompactPCI>>Chassis>>PXI-1052, PXI/CompactPCI>>Chassis>>PXI-1050
Problem: I have a PXI/SCXI combo chassis that I want to use with NI-DAQmx for SCXI communcation. What signals/configuration options are available?
Solution: In order to use a PXI DAQ board to control the SCXI portion of a PXI/SCXI combination chassis, the DAQ board must be in the right-most PXI slot. Communication with SCXI modules is achieved through the shared backplane. Here are some additional configuration options:
- All analog input signals are available on the front connector of the PXI Multifunction (MIO) DAQ board. This is true regardless of whether or not there are parallel mode modules in the SCXI portion of the chassis. On E Series devices, the same DIO lines reserved for SCXI communication are still reserved in the combo chassis. On M Series devices, however, all digital I/O lines are available. Please see the link below for more information.
- It is possible to attach a second SCXI chassis to the front of the controlling MIO board. This chassis will share daisy chain index 0 with the SCXI portion of the combo chassis, but it will need its own address other than 0, as this is what the combo chassis uses. In addition, you can daisy chain up to 8 chassis off of the font connector, for a total of 9 chassis. Consult the SCXI Getting Start Guide, linked below, for configuring your SCXI chassis in MAX.
- For the PXI-1010/1050, it is possible to cable the MIO board directly to the back of the SCXI portion of the chassis for parallel mode operation. Parallel mode with any SCXI module is not possible through the internal backplane.
- For the PXI-1011/1052, it is not possible to use the SCXI portion of the chassis in parallel mode because the rear of the modules is not directly exposed..
Note - This information is only valid for NI-DAQmx. Not all features described will work in Traditional (Legacy) NI-DAQ. Refer to the link below for daisy-chaining in Traditional (Legacy) NI-DAQ with a PXI-1010/1052 chassis.
