Can I Use a BNC-2090 and an SCXI Chassis on the Same DAQ Card?

Hardware: Multifunction DAQ (MIO)>>Connector Blocks>>BNC-2090

Problem: I currently have a system built with a BNC-2090 connected to my DAQ card. I'm adding the capability now to read in just a few thermocouples and I have an SCXI chassis and an 1102 lying around. Can I use my BNC-2090 to get my basic analog inputs and use my SCXI 1102 for my thermocouples while still using only the single DAQ card?

Solution: While not a reccommended solution, you can use both a BNC-2090 and an SCXI system at the same time. To do this connect your DAQ card to the BNC-2090 with a standard 68 pin cable. Then connect the SCXI chassis to your BNC-2090 with another 68 pin cable. Since the two 68 pin ports on the BNC-2090 are connected in parallel, the signals from the SCXI chassis can just pass through the BNC-2090. There are a few caveats when using your hardware in this way that you should be aware of.
  1. Since the SCXI modules multiplex signals onto the analog input lines, you will have to be careful to not connect a signal to a channel on the BNC-2090 that's reserved for multiplexing these signals. Usually, SCXI modules are multiplexed onto analog input lines that correspond with the module slot. So if you have SCXI modules in slots 0 and 1 of the SCXI chassis, you couldn't use channels 0 and 1 on the BNC-2090.
  2. The SCXI modules use the digital lines on your DAQ card to communicate with your PC. Because of this you should not try to access any digital input or output pins on your BNC-2090.
