Why do I Receive a "Requested Operation Requires Write Access to Licensing Directory" Error Message?

Primary Software: Other NI Software>>NI License Manager
Primary Software Version: 3.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
When I try to activate my National Instruments software, I receive the error message "Requested Operation Requires Write Access to Licensing Directory". How do I resolve this?

Solution:
Your current user account does not have write privileges to the licenses folder, located in C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\License Manager\Licenses. This folder could potentially be located on another drive if NI software was previously installed there.

Check the permissions of the National Instruments folder and ensure that the current user account has Full Control.

  1. In the Program Files folder, right click National Instruments and select Properties. Select the Security tab.
    • If the security tab is not visible, disable Simple File Sharing:
    • In a Windows Explorer window, select Tools» Folder Options from the menu bar.
    • Select the View tab.
    • Uncheck Simple File Sharing in the list of options on the bottom.
  2. Select the group the current account belongs to (usually Administrators), and check Allow for Full Control.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Activate the software.
