Getting Started with HiQ

Primary Software: Other NI Software>>HiQ
Primary Software Version: 4.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
Where does someone who is new to HiQ learn more about using it?

Solution:
Here are some suggestions for learning and using HiQ effectively:

1. HiQ Manuals
The best way to start learning HiQ is to work your way through the Getting Results with HiQ manuals. This short manual starts with the basics of HiQ terminology, works through adding graphs and other objects, and then shows how to put it all together in a HiQ Notebook. The chapters of this manual are intended to be worked through in sequential order since it is a training manual. If you do not have the time to work through the entire book at one time, you can pick out particular chapters and use the prebuilt notebooks that ship with HiQ for the exercises.

Product Manual: Getting Results with HiQ Manual

Once you finish Getting Results with HiQ, you will be ready to start building your own notebooks. Getting Started with HiQ only covers an introduction to HiQ, so if your application needs become more advanced, you should start looking through the HiQ Reference Manual (pdf format only). These two resources cover the complete functionality of HiQ. If you want to read about the functionality of HiQ (ActiveX, object properties, scripting, etc.) the Reference Manual is your best resource because there are specific chapters devoted to each of these topics.

2. HiQ Update Files for Mac OS
This update replaces your HiQ executable to fix some problems between HiQ 2.2 and MacOS 8.0 (or higher). It can be found at the following link:

3. HiQ Examples
If you are looking for an example to help you get started, look in the Examples folder in your HiQ directory on your hard drive. There are over fifty examples that demonstrate the functionality of HiQ. If you cannot find an example there, below are commonly used examples, you can also search our Developer Zone for HiQ examples at the following link:

Developer Zone Example: Controlling LabVIEW from HiQ
Developer Zone Example: Serial Communication with HiQ
Developer Zone Example: VISA Communication with HiQ

4. HiQ Built-in Help Files
If you have a problem or question, the first place to start is the HiQ Help menu. The built-in help files describe in detail the complete functionality of HiQ.

If you tried the help files and you are still having trouble finding what you need, try breaking down the question into nonspecific terms, such as "derivative" instead of "slope", or "integral" instead of "area".

The built-in help files also include an alphabetical HiQ function reference, with detailed descriptions of function parameters and examples that you can copy directly into your HiQ script. If you are looking for a particular function in HiQ, the built-in help files have the added advantage of being searchable (in case you don't know the exact function name).

5. HiQ Support Page
If you have searched the built-in help files and you cannot find a solution, please start your search of our online resources at the HiQ Support page.

Note: National Instruments does not support HiQ functionality on Mac OS in LabVIEW 7.0 and will no longer support HiQ functionality on all platforms after LabVIEW 7.0. If your application uses HiQ VIs, consider replacing them with the Analyze and Mathematics VIs. Refer to the LabVIEW Help for information about using the Analyze and Mathematics VIs. You access the LabVIEW Help by selecting Help»Search the LabVIEW Help...
