Should I Upgrade the Firmware on the PCIe 1427, 1429, or 1430?

Hardware: Image Acquisition (IMAQ)>>Digital Image Devices>>PCIe-1429, Image Acquisition (IMAQ)>>Digital Image Devices>>PCIe-1427, Image Acquisition (IMAQ)>>Digital Image Devices>>PCIe-1430

Problem:
I have a PCIe 1427, 1429, or 1430 framegrabber and I see that I can upgrade the firmware. Should I do this to get the newest version on my board?

Solution:
The main reason that you would want to upgrade the firmware on your framegrabber is to get the 64-bit compatible firmware. This is only neccessary when you are using a 64-bit operating system.

The boards ship with a 32-bit firmware on them. If you are using a 64-bit operating system, please contact NI support before performing the firmware update on your board. With the latest release of Vision Acquisition Software 8.6.1, there is a possibility to choose the incorrect firmware and damage your framegrabber.

The problem is that if you run the firmware updater on a 1427, 1429, or 1430 and choose to install a firmware, it will corrupt the flash on the board and cause the board to not show up in your computer. If you have already done this and are seeing the problem of your board not showing up anymore, please contact NI support to have an RMA done on your board.

This issue only affects the firmware updater utility that installs with Vision Acquisition 8.6.1. Any of the prior versions of the firmware updater that install with earlier versions of the driver work fine.
