Why do my National Instruments PCI Devices Receive Error Code 10 in the Windows Device Manager?

Primary Software: Driver Software>>NI-488.2
Primary Software Version: 2.4
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: Driver Software>>NI-DAQmx

Problem:
I have installed the latest National Instruments drivers, yet none of my PCI devices show up in MAX. When I check the Windows Device Manager, the National Instruments PCI devices have a yellow exclamation mark and have received Error code 10 (This device cannot start).

Solution:
This may be caused by a recently discovered incompatibility between the BIOS and National Instruments drivers. This issue has been observed on some recent machines featuring dual core processors although single core machines may still be affected. Some machines that are known to reproduce this issue are:
  • Hewlett-Packard DC7700
  • Hewlett-Packard DC5700
  • Hewlett-Packard DC5750
  • Hewlett-Packard DX7300
Please ensure that:
  1. You are using the latest BIOS for your machine.
  2. You are using the latest National Instruments drivers for your device.
  3. Download and apply the Core Driver Update from ftp://ftp.ni.com/support/cdu/ni-cdu1121.exe. This should only be needed if the latest NI Drivers or BIOS for you machine do not resolve the issue.

If you still encounter this issue after following the steps above please contact National Instruments support so that we can determine the root cause of the problem. National Instruments is actively working with computer and BIOS vendors to resolve this problem.
