Why Does the 4351 Board Specify 16 Voltage or 14 Thermocouple Inputs?

Hardware: Modular Instruments>>High-Precision DAQ (Dataloggers)>>PXI-4351, Modular Instruments>>High-Precision DAQ (Dataloggers)>>PXI-4351, Modular Instruments>>High-Precision DAQ (Dataloggers)>>PCI-4351

Problem: The specifications for the 4351 specify that the board has either 16 voltage or 14 thermocouple inputs. When performing temperature readings what are the two lost input channels being used for?

Solution: The number of channels that you have access to on the 4351 depends on the connector block that you buy for the device.

All of the 435x accessories which are used for thermocouple measurement use channel 0 (CH0) as the dedicated thermistor cold-junction sensor. Additionally, when using the 435x board with the PSH32-TC6, CB-27T, TC-2190, or TBX-68T connector blocks, the auto-zeroing method is implemented automatically on channel 1 (CH1). Therefore, the number of input channels that you will have access to, depends on the connector block that you choose.

For typical temperature measurements it is a good idea to apply cold junction compensation, and auto-zero your measurements and therefore, CH0 and CH1 will not be available. This will leave a maximum of 14 individual thermocouple channels.
