How to Configure NI Instrument Simulator for GPIB or Serial communication

Hardware: GPIB>>Support Products>>NI Instrument Simulator

Problem:
How do I configure the dip switches on my NI Instrument Simulator for the communication interface desired?

Solution:
To set the simulator in GPIB mode set the left bank of switches in the following manner:
(NOTE: the dip switches are on when switched down)

  • Pins 1-5 select the desired GPIB primary address
    • (Binary 0-30, 31 undefined; left switch LSB)
  • Pins 6-7 must be off (up)
  • Pin 8 must be on (down) to select "G mode"

GPIB configuration: PAD 2

To set the simulator in serial mode set the left bank of switches in the following manner:
(NOTE: the dip switches are on when switched down)

  • Pins 1-3 select the desired BAUD rate
    • (Binary 1-8; left switch LSB; 300,600,1200,2400,4800,9600,x,x)
  • Pin 4 selects the desired parity characteristic
    • (on for odd parity, off for even)
  • Pin 5 selects whether or not the parity generation/checking is enabled
  • Pin 6 selects number of stop bits per character
    • (off for 1, on for 2)
  • Pin 7 selects the number of bits used per character
    • (off for 7, on for 8)
  • Pin 8 must be off (up)

Serial configuration: 9600, no parity, 1Sb,8b xfer

NOTE: the right bank of switches is reserved for future development and should remain off.
