Problem: I upgraded to Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) version 4.2 or newer and I cannot find the visaconf.ini file that contains my VISA aliases. Where are my VISA aliases stored? Solution: The visaconf.ini file used to be stored in the directory VXIPNP\WinNT\NIvisa, but the file located there no longer stores VISA Aliases. With MAX version 4.2 and newer, the file is located in the Windows directory Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\National Instruments\NIvisa. If you need to modify your aliases, you can use the VISA Alias utility in MAX. Access this utility in MAX by selecting Tools»NI-VISA»VISA Options and selecting VISA Aliases from the My System list. This utility will allow you to view and modify all the VISA aliases stored on your computer. A screen shot of the utility is shown below:
