Current Per Phase and Current Per Axis Specifications Hardware: Motion Control>>Power Drives>>MID-7604
Problem: I currently own a stepper motor that specifies a maximum current per phase of 1.2 amps. I was looking at the possibility of using the National Instruments MID-7604 as an amplifier for this motor, but I noticed that this amplifier outputs a maximum current per axis of 1.4 amps. Is this going to work for my motor, or will I need a different motor amplifier? Also, what is the relationship between current per axis and current per phase? Solution: The MID-7604 should work just fine for your stepper motor. In the motion control industry some devices will have specifications listed according to current per phase and some will have specifications listed according to current per axis. The two specifications are actually identical, and there is no difference between the way they are measured and specified. They are simply two different ways of saying the same thing.
