DAQmx Sample Timing Engine Property for NI 6533/34Hardware: Digital I/O (DIO)>>High-Speed>>PXI-6534
Problem: What is the DAQmx property Sample Timing Engine (SampTimingEngine) and what is it used for? ![]() Solution: Currently, there are two timing controllers on the NI 6533 and 6534, specified in the NI 6533/6534 for NI DAQmx Help as Group 0 and Group 1. These groups (timing engines) each contain four control (PFI) lines which can be used as connections to time the input or output of data. Also, currently, only certain control lines are available to use for group 0 and others are available to use with group 1. The following table is from the NI 6533/6534 for NI-DAQmx Help, and shows which control lines are available for use with which timing engine. ![]() Because the 6533 and 6534 have two timing engines on board, you have the availability to perform two generation tasks or on generation and one acquisition, etc. The DAQmx Sample Timing Engine property now allows you to specify which control lines you want to use for the current task, regardless of the group that these control lines are associated with in the above table. Therefore, you could have an acquisition task running on some data lines. This task could also be timed with an external sample clock connected to PFI0. Before this property, this task would automatically use the group 0 timing engine, however, with the Sample Timing Engine property, you can specify that you want that task to use timing engine (group) 1 if you would like. The Sample Timing Engine property can be found in the DAQmx Timing Property Node at Advanced»Sample Timing Engine. ![]() Related Links: NI 6533/6534 for NI-DAQmx Help Attachments:
