What Do the Colored Boxes in NI License Manager Mean?

Primary Software: Other NI Software>>NI License Manager
Primary Software Version: 1.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: Other NI Software>>NI Volume License Manager

Problem:
When I open NI License Manager or NI Volume License Manager, each of the products in the list has a box next to it. Some of these boxes are colored green, yellow, red, or white, and some are either half-filled or completely filled. What do these boxes mean?

Solution:
NI License Manager (NILM) and NI Volume License Manager (VLM) are license management utilities for all installed NI software that requires activation. You can find these utilities by going to Start Menu»All Programs»National Instruments»NI License Manager or NI Volume License Manager. The square icons to the left of the product name indicate the activation status of any particular software item, and are typically a combination of the following:

Full square – Fully featured license
Half-filled square – Evaluation license
Empty square (White color) – Unlicensed
Green color – Nonexpiring license
Yellow color – Expiring license
Red color – Expired license

For instance, in the following image:

  • CVI Full Development System, LabVIEW 7.0, LabVIEW 7.1, and Measurement Studio are activated or otherwise fully featured, nonexpiring licenses.
  • LabVIEW 6.1 Remote Panel Connection and VI Logger 2.0 are nonexpiring evaluation licenses.
  • LabVIEW 8.0 Professional Development System is an expiring evaluation license.
  • Signal Express 1.1 is an evaluation license that has expired meaning that the software is still installed but disabled until a new license is applied to it.
  • The LabVIEW Base Development system as well as many others are unlicensed products or products being served from a network license server.  Launching it will prompt the user to activate the software, resulting in one of the described color status indicators.

Note: More information on the meaning of these icons can be found in the License Manager Help (Help»Contents) under National Instruments License Manager Help»License Management Overview»The NI License Manager Environment.
