Problem: When I open NI License Manager or NI Volume License Manager, each of the products in the list has a box next to it. Some of these boxes are colored green, yellow, red, or white, and some are either half-filled or completely filled. What do these boxes mean? Solution: NI License Manager (NILM) and NI Volume License Manager (VLM) are license management utilities for all installed NI software that requires activation. You can find these utilities by going to Start Menu»All Programs»National Instruments»NI License Manager or NI Volume License Manager. The square icons to the left of the product name indicate the activation status of any particular software item, and are typically a combination of the following: Full square – Fully featured license Half-filled square – Evaluation license Empty square (White color) – Unlicensed Green color – Nonexpiring license Yellow color – Expiring license Red color – Expired license For instance, in the following image:
