Problem: When I open NI License Manager or NI Volume License Manager, each of the products in the list has a box next to it. Some of these boxes are colored green, red, or yellow, and some are either half-filled or completely filled. What do these boxes mean? Solution: NI License Manager (NILM) and NI Volume License Manager (VLM) are license management utilities for all installed NI software that requires activation. You can find these utilities by going to Start Menu » Programs » National Instruments » NI License Manager or NI Volume License Manager respectively. The square colored icons indicate the activation status of any particular software item, and are typically a combination of the following: Half-filled square – Evaluation version Full square – Licensed version Yellow color – Time limited Green color – Unlimited time Red color – Expired or invalid For instance, in the following image:
