Problems Using SH68-68-D1 Cable With an E or M Series Device and SCXI Chassis?

Hardware: Compact FieldPoint>>Connector Blocks

Problem:
I have an SH68-68-D1 cable connecting my SCXI chassis to an E or M Series Data Acquisition (DAQ) board. The chassis is not detected in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX), but everything else seems to be installed correctly. What's wrong with my setup?

Solution:
The SH68-68-D1 is similar to the SH68-68-EP, but it is dedicated for use with the following boards.
  • NI 670x Analog Output Devices
  • NI 6533 and 6534 Digital Input/Output Devices
  • NI 660x Counter/Timer Devices
Note: If you are using this cable with an SCXI chassis, the chassis will not be detected due to the electrical differences between the cables. There are four pins which do not connect in the SH68-68-D1 cable. In other words, they are not short-circuited (not connected through the cable). Those pins are 19, 35, 43 and 56. Pin 19 correlates to DIO4 (digital line 4) on an E Series device and digital lines 0, 1, 2, and 4 are used for SCXI communication. Since pin 19 is not connected through the SH6868-D1 cable, the E Series device will be unable to communicate with and control the SCXI chassis.

To verify that the correct cable is being used, check the assembly number. The SH68-68-D1 has a "183432-0x" assembly number, while the SH68-68-EP has a "184749-0x" assembly number. For more information on cabling issues, contact a National Instruments Technical Representative at the link below.
