Broken Run Arrow Using VI Server to Call an FPGA Host VI

Primary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>FPGA Module
Primary Software Version: 8.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A
Hardware: PXI/CompactPCI>>Controllers>>PXI-8175 RT

Problem:
I am trying to use VI Server to call an FPGA host VI that resides on an CompactRIO or PXI real-time (RT) target, but whenever I do this, I get a broken arrow and cannot open or run the VI. What is going on?

Solution:
A common problem when trying to use VI Server to call an FPGA host VI that sits on a real-time target is that not all the supporting files are actually on the RT target, such as the FPGA bit file or SubVIs called by the host VI. When you try to run the FPGA host VI via VI Server, the VI shows a Broken Run Arrow because the host VI being called via VI Server cannot find the missing SubVIs or bitstream file.

An easy fix is to create a source distribution that includes all supporting files, then FTP those files over to the directory on the RT system where the host VI is located. Now when you try to run your host FPGA program via VI Server, the supporting files will be there and your program should work.
