Why Does Resource Manager Hang?

Problem: When trying to recognize and configure my VME-MXI-2 controller and chassis, Resource Manager (resman) hangs. How can I either overcome this or narrow down the cause of the hang?
Solution: First of all, the VME-MXI-2 does not correctly detect that it is installed in slot 1 unless your VME chassis is VME64 compliant. If it is, follow the steps below to narrow down the cause of the hang.
Basic Troubleshooting:- Install the PXI/PCI-MXI-2, cable, and VME-MXI-2.
- Ensure the latest versions of NI-VXI and NI-VISA are installed on your computer (see links below).
- If you do not have the latest version of the drivers, download and install the drivers first, and then run resman again.
- If resman continues to hang, continue through the following steps
- Turn OFF the VME chassis. Make sure the VME-MXI-2 is the only device in the VME chassis.
- Open MAX and select "VXI System X (PCI-MXI-2)" under "Devices and Interfaces"
- Now, run resman and it should run successfully, but only find the PXI/PCI-MXI-2.
- If it does not run successfully, verify your cable is connected correctly.
- If the cable is correctly connected, troubleshoot the PXI/PCI-MXI-2.
- Turn on the VME chassis.
- Run resman again. It should find the VME-MXI-2.
- If it does not, shut down the VME chassis and remove the VME-MXI-2.
- Set switch 1 of U21 on the module to true as per instructions in the VME-MXI-2 User Manual, page 3-9 (see link below)
- Reinstall the VME-MXI-2.
- Power the chassis back up and rerun resman.
If the above steps do not allow resman to run without hanging, contact National Instruments Technical Support.
