How Does the NI Volume License Manager (NI VLM) Work With Old Versions of NI Software?Primary Software: Other NI Software>>NI Volume License ManagerPrimary Software Version: N/A Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: N/A
Problem: I am using the NI Volume License Manager (NI VLM) with my NI Software (CVI, LabVIEW, TestStand, Measurement Studio, Developers Suite, etc.). I have purchased or been shipped a new version of one of my software products, and I have a received a new license file to reflect this change. (For example, I upgraded from CVI 8.2 to CVI 8.5, and my new license file grants licenses for CVI 8.5). Can I still use CVI 8.2? How does this work? Solution: The licenses granted by the NI VLM are backwards compatible with previous versions of NI Software. Therefore, you can still use your old version with NI VLM simply by granting the client machine a license for the newer version. For example, if you grant a license to a client for CVI 8.5, that client will still be able to open up CVI 8.2. This will work as long as CVI 8.2 has also been installed with a Volume License Installer or is already configured to point at the server for a license. If you are having problems launching your software on your client machine, follow the normal troubleshooting procedure detailed in the KnowledgeBase article below.
