Upgrading VISA Application from Visual C++ 6.0 to Visual C++ .NET

Primary Software: Driver Software>>NI-VISA
Primary Software Version: 3.3
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: Measurement Studio>>Visual C++ Support, Measurement Studio>>.NET Support

Problem: I'd like to upgrade my current VISA application from Visual C++ 6.0 to Visual C++ .NET. How do I do so? Are there any known issues that I should be aware of?

Solution: To upgrade a VISA application from Visual C++ 6.0 (VC++) to Visual C++ .NET (VC.NET), do the following:
  1. If Microsoft VC.NET is not already installed, complete installation before proceeding.
  2. Open VC.NET, and select File » Open » Project, and navigate to the VC++ project file. Project files typically have a .dsp file extension.
  3. If the file has never before been opened in VC.NET, a window similar to the figure below should appear. Select Yes or Yes To All to convert your VC++ application to a VC.NET application.

  4. Once conversion is nearly complete, the dialog warning pictured below may appear. Choose OK to continue.

  5. Save changes.

Assuming the VC++ application was functional before converting to VC.NET, you should be able to build and run your application without error.

Note:
VISA applications build for VC++ may be converted to and used in VC.NET, however the source code will be Unmanaged MFC.
