Why is My SCXI-1160/1161 Switch Modules Not Detected in MAX?

Hardware: Switches>>General-Purpose>>SCXI-1160

Problem: I have cabled my SCXI-1160 to a PCI-4021 switch controller via the 1362 cable assembly kit. However, Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) does not detect my SCXI-1160 or any of the other devices in the chassis. I have the latest version of the NI-DAQ and NI-Switch drivers installed. Why is my SCXI-1160 switch module not detected in MAX?

Solution: The most common cause of this behavior is incorrect jumper settings.

Jumpers W2, W3, and W4 on the SCXI-1160/1161 have two labeled positions -- MIO and DIO. In order for the SCXI-1160/1161 to communicate with the PCI-4021, these three jumpers must all be set to the MIO position. If they are set to DIO, the SCXI-1160/1161 will not be detected in MAX.

Also verify that jumpers W1 and W5 are set in the correct positions according to your chassis setup:

For a single chassis, set W1 and W5 to 1-2.

For multiple chassis:
  1. Set W5 to 1-2 on all of the modules connected to the controller.
  2. Set W1 to 1-2 only on the module connected to the controller.
  3. Set W1 to 3-4 on all other modules.
If your SCXI-1160/1161 is still not detected in MAX, check for bent or broken pins on all of your cable connections.
