AT-GPIB / Windows 95 - GPIB Diagnostics

Hardware: GPIB>>Plug-in Controllers>>AT-GPIB

Problem:
I am trying to use the GPIB Diagnostics Tools for my AT-GPIB card in Windows 95. How do I use this utility?

Solution:

Running the GPIB diagnostics:
Both the hardware and software diagnostics need to be performed on the AT-GPIB board. Both tests are located in the folder that was created during the GPIB driver installation (C:\at-gpibw by default). Ibdiag.exe is the hardware test and ibtest.exe is the software test.
  1. Run the hardware diagnostics test first by double-clicking on the ibdiag.exe icon as shown in the image below.

Your GPIB board should show up in the diagnostics utility as shown below.

If the GPIB board does not appear in the Hardware Diagnostics list, follow the troubleshooting steps below:

    • Ensure the board is installed correctly by reseating it or trying a different slot.

    • Make sure that interface name is not set to "None". Browse to Start » Settings » Control Panel and select the GPIB icon. Make sure that at least one GPIB board is set to "GPIB0".

    • Make sure you do not have a resource conflict. You may need to find available resources for your GPIB hardware. See the related links section for more information on finding available resources. If the board was found, but the test still failed, then the cause of failure is most likely a resource conflict.

  2. After the Hardware Diagnostics test (ibdiag.exe) passes successfully, run the Software Diagnostics test (ibtest.exe). It should look similar to the image below:

If the GPIB board did not appear in the Software Diagnostics list or if the board was found, but the test still failed, follow the troubleshooting steps in the Hardware Diagnostics section above.

  3. If both the Hardware and Software Diagnostics tests pass, your board and driver are correctly installed. You can now communicate with your device using the GPIB Interactive Control Utility. See the related links section below for more information on using this utility.
