Problem: I would like to install both VME (B-size) and VXI (C-size) controllers in a VXI-1200 FlexFrame Chassis, but have not been successful yet. I can install just the VME controller, or just the VXI controller, but I cannot seem to get both working at the same time. Is this possible? Solution: One of the benefits of VXI/VME is the ability to have multiple controllers controlling the devices in a single chassis. However, when trying to do this with a mix of VME and VXI controllers, it is important to know that the P1 and P2 connectors in both B-size and C-size slots are connected. This means is if you have a VXI controller in your system, it will drive lines on the P2 connector that are not defined by the VMEbus specification but are defined by the VXIbus specification. As a result you must be very careful which VME devices you use in general. If you have a VME device that utilitizes "user defined" pins on the P2 as per the VME specification, these lines will be overridden by the VXI controller and can result in damage to one or more of the boards. In summary, yes, it is possible to use both controllers in a single VXI-1200 chassis, if you adhere to the information above. Related Links: Attachments:
