Problem:
How Do I Add Special Characters to the Measurement Studio .NET Controls?

Solution:
Sometimes it is desirable to display certain unusual or special characters on the axes or labels of the UI controls. Typical examples of these special characters include symbols like infinity, trade mark, one half, and greek letters.  In most cases this can be done fairly easily.

The following is an example of how to add the infinity symbol to a Measurement Studio Knob Control. Unfortunately, most windows fonts don't include the infinity symbol in their character set (while the degree character and some other common characters are there). Thus, it is important to find use a font that does support the special symbol you wish to insert.

To display the infinity symbol on the axis of a control, follow the next steps:

  1. Open Microsoft Word and select Symbol... from the Insert menu.
  2. Select the font you will be using from the font pull down menu.
  3. Double-Click on the infinity symbol (or other character) to insert the symbol.

  4. Close the Insert Symbol dialog box.
  5. Highlight the infinity symbol in the word document and select Edit»Copy.
  6. Switch back to the knob, and edit the properties of the Custom Divisions.

  7. Make sure the font for the Custom Divisions matches that of the symbol you copied from Word.
  8. Add a Custom Division, click in the Name box and paste in the infinity symbol.

Once these steps have been completed, the knob can look similar to the one below:
