Using the NI 5663 With an External Local Oscillator (LO) Source

Hardware: Modular Instruments>>RF Measurement Devices>>PXIe-5663

Problem:
I would like to use the NI 5663 Vector Signal Analyzer with an external local oscillator (LO) rather than the NI 5652. How do I set the NI-RFSA driver to use this feature with the NI 5601 Downconverter?

Solution:
The NI 5663 consists of three modules including the NI 5601 Downconverter, NI 5622 IF Digitizer, and NI 5652 RF Signal Generator. There may be applications where you are required to use a LO source from a thrid-party RF Signal Generator. In this case, you will need to make the following changes:
  1. In Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX), right-click on the NI 5601 under Devices and Interfaces»NI-DAQmx Devices and click Properties to open up the Device Properties Window. Specify the LO source as External.

  2. In LabVIEW, you will also need to specify to the driver that you are using an external LO source by initializing the NI 5601 device with the niRFSA Initialize With Options VI using the following option string: DriverSetup=LO:<external>.
