All NI Software Requiring Activation Fails to Start After Installing New Software

Hardware: PXI/CompactPCI>>Controllers

Problem:
I just installed new NI software. Now, the following applications fail to start or cause a Windows error reporting dialog:
  • All NI software requiring activation
  • NI License Manager
  • Installers for software requiring activation
With an error message similar to one of the following:
  1. Unhandled exception at 0x015a3571 in LabVIEW.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x535c7378.
  2. The instruction at "0x7c91aa01" referenced memory at "0x017c2258". The memory could not be "read".

  3. This computer is in a state that will prevent National Instruments licensed software from launching.

This behavior most often appears after installing a large amount of software from the LabVIEW 8.6 or later Platform DVD, as well as the Q3 2008 or later NI Developer Suite.

Solution:
This issue may occur if you have more than 99 license files in your license file directory: <National Instruments>\Shared\License Manager\Licenses.

If you do not feel comfortable following the procedure outlined below, contact technical support by clicking Ask an Engineer at www.ni.com/support.

To resolve this issue, first uninstall versions of NI software that you do not use.  Next, download and run the attached LicenseMigrationUtility.exe. If you see the following dialog box then this issue is resolved:

Otherwise, complete the instructions on the following dialog box:

Deselect any licenses that you intend to use and then click Next. The application will move the selected license files to [National Instruments]\Shared\License Manager\Licenses\Backup.

If the following dialog box appears, then rerun the NILM Migration Utility to move additional licenses:
