Updating NI-IMAQdx 3.0 (Vision Acquisition Software 8.2.1) for use with the PCIe-8231 GigE Vision Card

Problem: When installing the PCIe-8231 with NI-IMAQdx 3.0, “National Instruments GigE Vision” driver does not show up in the list of drivers to associate with the hardware. By not associating this driver to the hardware, GigE Vision applications do not take advantage of the CPU optimizations for this hardware.

Solution: Install NI-IMAQdx 3.0 from the Vision Acquisition Software 8.2.1 CD as described in the NI Vision Acquisition Software Release Notes.
Note: Please note that these instructions are only for use with NI-IMAQdx 3.0. If you have any other version of the driver, including 3.0.1, DO NOT follow these instructions.

Copy the attached nigevk.inf file into the Windows INF folder (e.g. c:\Windows\inf). When prompted to confirm overwrite, click on the “Yes” button.
Note: It is possible that the INF folder is hidden. If this is the case, select to “Show hidden files and folders” from the View tab of the Folder Options dialog. (From Explorer Window, Tools>>Folder Options…) You can revert this setting once you have copied the new file into the folder.

Now follow the instructions for Installing the High Performance GigE Vision Driver as described in the NI Vision Acquisition Software Release Notes. “National Instruments GigE Vision” should now be an option in the list box.
