Multisim or Ultiboard Leaking GDI Resource Handles Primary Software: Electronics Workbench>>MultisimPrimary Software Version: 10.0.1 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: Electronics Workbench>>Ultiboard
Problem: Opening multiple files increases the number of GDI resource handles, eventually leading to a crash. Solution: Microsoft® found an issue with MFC applications using Microsoft® Windows® Graphics Device Interface (GDI) objects and running on Windows® Server 2003 or Windows® XP. Multisim and Ultiboard are MFC applications that extensively use GDI for its graphics engine. This issue affects users of Multisim and Ultiboard running any of the affected Operating Systems. Microsoft® created a Knowledge Base entry on their Support website that explains the problem and provides a hotfix update you can download directly from their website; the article is Microsoft® KB 319740. The solution is to install a hotfix update or you can workaround this problem if you turn off the XP user interface theme and go back to the classic theme. NI has made tests after following the procedure explained in the KB and have seen significant improvements especially in XP systems.
