Installing the Simulation Module 2.0 on a Computer with LabVIEW 8.2
Primary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>Simulation Module
Primary Software Version: 2.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A
Problem: How do I install the Simulation Module 2.0 for use with LabVIEW 8.0, if LabVIEW 8.2 is currently on the computer?
Solution: As documented in the readme for the Simulation Module, the LabVIEW Simulation Module version 2.0 is designed only for use with LabVIEW 8.0. If you have a newer version of LabVIEW you will need to use LabVIEW 8.0 to develop with the Simulation Module. You can still use programs developed in newer versions of LabVIEW by using the "Save for Previous Version..." feature. This method is described by a document linked below.
To install the 2.0 toolkit for use with LabVIEW:
- If you have LabVIEW 8.0 installed as the most recent version of LabVIEW on your system, all you need to do is install the toolkit as normal. Installing LabVIEW 8.2 or later on the machine after the Simulation Module is installed will not affect the operation of the module in LabVIEW 8.0.
- If you only have a newer version of LabVIEW installed (8.2 or higher) you will need to uninstall those newer versions, and install LabVIEW 8.0, then the Simulation Module 2.0 (as described above).
- If you have LabVIEW 8.0 and newer versions of LabVIEW installed, you will either need to follow the above step to install the toolkit, or follow the procedure below. Note: the procedure below involves modifying your Windows Registry. Please do so with caution.
- If the module is installed already to a LabVIEW version other than 8.0, first uninstall the module through Add/Remove Programs.
- Modify the Windows Registry to make the installer think that LabVIEW 8.0 is the current version:
- Open up the Windows Registry Editor (Run » Regedit)
- Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE » Software» National Instruments » LabVIEW 8.2
- Right-click the "Path" key and modify the String to the LabVIEW 8.0 directory
- Install the Simulation Module 2.0 as normal.
- Change the registry key back to the 8.2 directory (using the same steps above).
- Run the Simulation Module 2.0 from LabVIEW 8.0.
