Why does My VxWorks Controller Sometimes Boots into Safe Mode Even with Software Installed and Dip Switches Set Correctly?

Hardware: Compact FieldPoint>>Controllers>>cFP-2200, CompactRIO>>Controllers>>cRIO-9012, CompactRIO>>Controllers>>cRIO-9014, Compact FieldPoint>>Controllers>>cFP-2210, CompactRIO>>Controllers>>cRIO-9074, Compact FieldPoint>>Controllers>>cFP-2220, CompactRIO>>Chassis (Backplanes)>>cRIO-9072, CompactRIO>>Controllers>>cRIO-9073

Problem:
My cRIO controller fails to boot. After a couple of attempt, it boots into safe mode, even with all software installed and dip switches set correctly. If I connect a console to the target's serial output, I see the error message:

Reboot due to system error.
Redirecting output to log file.

Solution:
If your system meets all of the requirements below and you are experiencing the crash described above, please contact National Instruments technical support for the solution:
  1. You are using one of the follow controllers AND
    • cFP-22x0
    • cRIO-901x
    • cRIO-902x
    • cRIO-907x
    • sbRIO-96xx
    • NI 17xx Smart Camera
  2. You have Network Variable Engine installed on the target AND
  3. You used MAX 4.5.1 or earlier to install software on the target AND
  4. You are using LabVIEW Real-Time 8.6.1 or earlier
  5. In your RT error log, you will see the one section similar to the texts below.
The log, rtlog.txt, is typically located in /ni-rt/system/
