Measurement & Automation Explorer is Slow When a Mapped Motion Controller is not Reachable

Primary Software: Driver Software>>NI-Motion/FlexMotion
Primary Software Version: 7.2
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>Real-Time Module

Problem:
When I disconnect or shut down my PXI system, my mapped motion controller appropriately gets a red X but Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) starts responding very slowly. What is going on and what can I do about it?

Solution:
When a remote motion system is unreachable, the motion driver responds slowly because it is trying to connect and is waiting for timeouts.  These timeouts can take up to 90 seconds for each separate call.  Sometimes multiple calls are made when navigating in MAX.

To fix this issue, unmap the motion controller before disconnecting the real-time system.  This avoids the slowdown. You will not lose your settings because they are saved on the RT system. Remap the remote device when the system is available again.
