Using the State Diagram Toolkit with the LabVIEW PDA Module

Primary Software: LabVIEW Toolkits>>State Diagram Toolkit
Primary Software Version: 2.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>PDA Module

Problem:
I am trying to create a VI to target to my PDA. Whenever I try to edit the PDA VI, however, I don't see the State Diagram Toolkit palette in my functions palette. Can I use the State Diagram Toolkit with VIs targeted to PDAs, and if so, how?

Solution:
The State Diagram Toolkit does not show up in the functions palette when you edit a VI targeted to a PDA device, but you can use the State Diagram Toolkit with these VIs. There are two ways you can accomplish this.

The first method is to target your PDA VI to your PC while you create the state diagram control. After you have created the initial state diagram control, you will be able to continue editing the state diagram when the VI is targeted to the PDA again.

The next method is actually to add the State Diagram Toolkit palette to your PDA functions palette, so that you can create state diagrams directly in VIs targeted to a PDA device. Follow these instructions to add the toolkit palette to your PDA functions palette:

  1. Open up a VI currently targeted to your PDA (where you don't see the State Diagram palette).
  2. Select Tools » Advanced » Edit Palette Sets (for LabVIEW 7.1 and before: Edit Palette Views).
  3. You will see the Functions and Control palettes appear for the PDA target. Find the Functions palette and browse to the Programming section. For LabVIEW 7.1 and before, browse to your User Libraries palette.
  4. Right click an empty space in this palette and select Insert » Subpalette (for LabVIEW 7.1 and before: Insert » Submenu).
  5. Select the option Link to an existing palette file (.mnu).
  6. From the file dialog that pops up browse to the following file: LabVIEW X.X\vi.lib\addons\statediagram\dir.mnu.
  7. You will now see the State Diagram palette in the selected palette where it should be. Go to the Edit Controls and Functions Palette dialog and select Save Changes.
After that, your PDA functions palette will include the State Diagram Toolkit at the location you added it above.
