How Do I Find the HostID For the MATRIXx Key Request Form?

Primary Software: MATRIXx
Primary Software Version: 6.3
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem: I am requesting a keycode for MATRIXx. On the Key Request form it asks for a hostid. How do I obtain the hostid?

Solution: This information is available in section 3.7.1 of the System Administrators Guide. A link to the MATRIXx manuals is provided below.

For MATRIXx prior to 7.1
The easiest way to get the hostid is to run the utility lmhostid. This utility is available in the ISILM sub-folder of your MATRIXx installation.

For MATRIXx 7.1
In Windows the easiest way to get the hostid is to run the utility lmtools. This utility is available in the NILM sub-folder of your MATRIXx installation and also from the Start menu in the National Instruments>MATRIXx group. Run the utility and select the System Settings tab to see the hostid information. There is also a button to save this information to a file.
On Unix use the lmhostid utility located in the NILM subdirectory.

If you do not have MATRIXx installed on the machine or want to verify the hostid refer to the table below for alternate ways to get the hostid.

Notes:
* HostID type for Windows
On Windows you can either use the ethernet address or the disk volume serial number. The HostID you choose depends on which version of MATRIXx you use, as well as if you intend to stay connected to the network.

For MATRIXx 7.1 and later: The ethernet address is preferred.

For MATRIX 7.0 and earlier: For users who intend to stay connected to the network, the ethernet address is preferred, you may also use the disk serial number. For users who may disconnect from the network you should use the disk serial number. This is because Windows 2000 and XP unconfigure the ethernet card when the ethernet cable is not plugged in. When the ethernet card is unconfigured the license manager can not identify the hostid. Therefore the disk volume serial number is preferred since it will work even when the ethernet cable is unplugged.
** Disk Volume Serial Number on Windows
Remove the dash from the disk volume serial number to get a 8 digit alpha numeric number. The disk volume serial number must be that of the C drive, even if the license manager is installed on a different drive.
*** 32-bit ID on IBM AIX
Remove the last 2 digits of the number to obtain a 8 digit alpha numeric number.
