Receiving Error "Cannot Find Digital Certificate" or "Form specified by the subject is not supported or known by the specified trust provider" when installing a PCI-GPIB Board

Hardware: GPIB>>Plug-in Controllers>>PCI-GPIB

Problem: I am receiving the error "Cannot Find Digital Certificate" or "Form specified by the subject is not supported or known by the specified trust provider" when installing my PCI-GPIB board on a Windows 2000 computer. I have installed my driver correctly and this only happens when the hardware wizard begins. Often when the install is unsuccessful due to this issue, a device named Simple PCI Communications Controller shows up in the device manager.

Solution: This error occurs when certain security options are selected on the Windows 2000 machine. Log in as an Administrator and follow the directions below to access the appropriate security options.

  1. In Windows, go to Start »Settings » Control Panel » Administrative Tools » Local Security Policy
  2. Open the "Local Policies" folder and click on the "Security Options" (A list of policies are listed on the right)
  3. Scroll to "unsigned non-driver installation behavior" at the bottom of the page
  4. Make sure this attribute is selected as "silently succeed"
  5. Scroll to "unsigned driver installation behavior" and select the attribute "silently succeed"
