Problem: What’s New in DIAdem 9? Solution: This KnowledgeBase discusses the new features of DIAdem 9.0 General Changes The new NILM Software Licensing The new XML-based Resource Files The new *.TDM Data File Format The new Data Portal DIAdem NAVIGATOR DIAdem VIEW DIAdem ANALYSIS DIAdem REPORT Start LabVIEW DIAdem SCRIPT General Changes [Top] The first thing you will notice about DIAdem 9 is that the user interface has been redone. Many of the icons and coloring are new, but you will also find that the functional structure of the different panels, called devices earlier (DATA, VIEW, CALC, etc.) has been preserved. The panels have also been renamed (NAVIGATOR, VIEW, ANALYSIS, etc.). The second thing you will notice is that the first panel, now NAVIGATOR, is quite different, and that there is a brand new window, called the Data Portal, off to the right of your screen. DIAdem 9 radically improves the way you interact with data in the DIAdem environment. Now the abilities of the former DATA panel are spread between the new NAVIGATOR panel, the new Data Portal window, and the redesigned VIEW panel.
The new NILM Software Licensing [Top] DIAdem 9 now uses NI’s FlexLM-based NILM software licensing architecture. There is now only one DIAdem installer on the DIAdem 9 CD, which installs all the DIAdem features and the CRASH Toolkit. The differences between 30-day Trial Version, Base, Advanced, and Professional packages are now all handled separately with the new NILM License Manager, which installs with DIAdem 9. Now you can install the 30-day trial version, and when you decide to purchase DIAdem 9, you will not need to uninstall or re-install anything, just activate your new DIAdem 9 license. If you do not have an activated license for your installed DIAdem 9, it will automatically launch in the 30-day trial version mode. The new XML-based Resource Files [Top] DIAdem 9 now saves resource files in XML format. This includes data files, REPORT templates, and VIEW templates. In each of these cases DIAdem 9 introduces significant new features that need to be saved in these files, and XML provides a superior mechanism to store hierarchical information. DIAdem 9 will by default expect to read and write these new, XML-based resource files, but you can still access the old DIAdem 8.1 resource files, details are listed below:
The new *.TDM Data File Format [Top] DIAdem's new *.TDM data file format offers a number of immediate advantages over the previous *.DAT file format. The *.TDM file format can store channel hierarchy and arbitrary channel and data set properties, whereas the *.DAT file format always had a flat channel structure and fixed channel and data set properties. The *.DAT file format will continue to be supported in DIAdem and will always be a very efficient way to store very large data sets for fast data saving and fast data loading. The new Data Portal [Top] The "Data Overview" and "Data Properties" tabs of the old DIAdem-DATA panel have been replaced by a new window, called the Data Portal. The Data Portal also offers a brand new tree control view of your loaded data sets and channels as well as a new sort-by-property feature in the more familiar "Channel overview" presentation. DIAdem now offers comprehensive drag-and-drop data selection, and the Data Portal is where data sets are dropped into when they are dragged from the NAVIGATOR panel, and it is where data channels are dragged from when they are dropped into the other DIAdem panels: VIEW, REPORT, ANALYSIS, and SCRIPT. Note that you can select more than 1 channel at a time with the DIAdem NAVIGATOR [Top] The separate Data Navigator dialog you could launch from DATA in DIAdem 8.1 has been integrated into DIAdem 9 as the new NAVIGATOR panel and has taken the place of the old DATA panel. In the NAVIGATOR panel you can view the data set and channel properties directly in the tree structure, and you can filter the data sources based on any associated data source property and the condition you enter. DIAdem VIEW [Top] DIAdem VIEW has been completely redeveloped, and it now includes the ability to view your loaded data channels in the familiar Excel-like table structure that was previously in the "Channel contents" tab of the DATA panel of DIAdem 8.1. You can choose a predefined VIEW layout which shows all the loaded channels, as you are used to seeing in previous versions, or you can customize the channels you see in a particular table by dragging them from the Data Portal and dropping them into that VIEW table. DIAdem 9 allows you to design the number and layout of tables and graphs as you like, in addition to the usual predefined panes. DIAdem 9 adds multiple tabs to the VIEW panel, with each tab containing a new VIEW Template (page). Multiple VIEW tabs can be stored and loaded together in a single *.TDV file, and they can be printed together as a single print job. The VBScript programming interface to VIEW has also been completely redesigned and is now fully object-based - search for the "View object" in the Online Help for details. DIAdem ANALYSIS [Top] DIAdem ANALYSIS now allows data channels to be selected as input parameters for all calculations by simply dragging the selected channels in the Data Portal onto the desired input parameter selection box in the calculation dialog. DIAdem ANALYSIS also offers new functions for the evaluation of data from vehicle safety tests that were not present in the DIAdem 8.1 CALC panel. DIAdem REPORT [Top] DIAdem 9 REPORT now displays and refreshes report templates faster than in the DIAdem 8.1 GRAPH panel. DIAdem 9 adds multiple tabs to the REPORT panel, with each tab containing a new REPORT Template (page). Multiple REPORT tabs can be stored and loaded together in a single *.TDV file, and they can be printed together as a single print job. DIAdem 9 is also able to print multiple tabs in REPORT as HTML files ready to display in a web browser. In DIAdem 9 graphs on a REPORT template now have a Y axis property to natively display multiple traces stacked on top of each other, as was previously only possible in VIEW. The REPORT panel in DIAdem 9 also has improved handling of overlapping objects on the REPORT template, and REPORT templates can now be converted automatically into VIEW templates. Start LabVIEW [Top] Pressing the new LabVIEW panel in DIAdem 9 currently launches LabVIEW and loads a VI template which shows you how to send data directly to the DIAdem Data Portal via ActiveX. If LabVIEW is not installed on the DIAdem computer, the LabVIEW panel appears grayed-out. DIAdem 9 now installs with its instancing start parameter set to automatically use an existing DIAdem instance (0). DIAdem SCRIPT [Top] DIAdem 9 offers a dialog template wizard to speed and simplify the process of creating Scriptable User Dialogs. In DIAdem 9 you can drag channels and properties from the Data Portal into a new script to immediately see the syntax for address/creating that channel/property from a VBScript. You can also drag items from DIAdem 9's new HTML online help and drop them directly into a new VBScript. All the new features of DIAdem 9 are fully programmable with either new DIAdem variables (like PtlShow) or new functions (like DataFileLoad) - search for the "New features" in the Online-Help for a full list of these new variables and functions. Also, the SCRIPT window now has a Dialog Wizard and SUDialog templates you can access from the SCRIPT panel's GUI for easier customization. Related Links: DIAdem Support Attachments:
