Why Can't I Create a New Citadel Database in MAX?Primary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>DSC ModulePrimary Software Version: 8.5.1 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: Utility Software>>Measurement & Automation Explorer
Problem: When I try to create a new database in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) under the Citadel 5 Universe nothing happens. I am presented with a status box but it never makes any progress. MAX does not freeze, it just doesn't do anything. How do I make my database? Solution: This is happening because the National Instruments Citadel service is not running properly. When the service is not running and you attempt to create a new database you will be presented with the following window: ![]() In order to create a new database you need to ensure that this service is running properly. To do this, open up the Services window of the Microsoft Management Console. This is within the Control Panel » Administrative Tools » Services. From the Services window find and double click on the National Instruments Citadel service. You will be presented with a properties dialog that looks similar to the following: ![]() Make sure that the Startup type is set to Automatic and that the service is Started. If the service is not started you should be able to click the Start button. If the service states that it is started, click the Stop button to stop the service and then click the Start button to re-start the service. If the service has a difficult time either stopping or starting it is recommended to restart your computer and try again. Should this issue persist, contact National Instruments for further assistance. Related Links: KnowledgeBase 4GP9SA4H: Why Can't I Delete My Citadel Database?
