Distribution Not Found Error when Building Distribution in LabWindows/CVI Primary Software: LabWindows/CVI Development Systems>>Full Development SystemPrimary Software Version: 8.1 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: N/A
Problem: When I try to build a distribution in LabWindows/CVI, I get the error "Distribution Not Found" and am unable to complete the distribution. Why do I get this error message? Solution: This error can occur for many reasons. The most common reason for this error is that the distribution that you are building has been built before and installed on the development computer. This distribution is then removed without using "Add or Remove Programs," and registry keys are left from the previous installation. The distribution then looks to the location of the previous installation for whatever components are mentioned in the error message, and can't find them there, because they have been deleted or moved. This case is generally signified by the error message looking for a user created distribution, as can be seen below: To solve this case, you can either point it to where the distribution now resides, or, if you no longer have the distribution, check to make sure that the distribution "Instrument Test Installer" (or whatever is appropriate for the case) is not listed in "Add or Remove Programs." If it is, uninstall the distribution, and then try to build the distribution again. If It does not exist under "Add or Remove Programs," go to Start Menu»Run, and then type "Regedit." Once the registry opens make a backup copy of the registry by going to File»Export, selecting the "All" radio button, and then save it. Finally browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/National Instruments/Common/Installer/Distributions, search/scan for the entry "Instrument Test Installer," and delete the entire key. One Further possibility is that this error message might say it can not find a certain National Instruments distribution, as shown below: This could be something as simple as not having the CD that this driver resides on not in the drive, or not at the referenced network/hard drive location. To solve this, either insert the CD or point the dialog to the appropriate network/hard drive location, or change the source from the Drivers & Components tab of the Edit Installer dialog box to match where the driver currently resides.
