Configuring Hardware for Use with RTX

Hardware: Reconfigurable I/O (RIO)>>R Series>>PCI-7831R

Problem: I need to configure my PCI-7831R for use with RTX. How do I install this hardware?

Solution: In order to use your FPGA hardware with RTX you must insure that the board is configured for RTX support and that it is not sharing an IRQ with any other device.

First refer to the "Using the NI PCI-7831R with the LabVIEW Real-Time Module for RTX" section of the Getting Started with the NI 7831R

Refer to the above manual for how to add and remove RTX support for your hardware. If you are having problems resolving IRQ conflicts follow the directions below.

  1. Add RTX support for the 7831R. After updating the driver in device manager check to see the IRQ number that was assigned.
  2. In Windows Device Manager, determine an available IRQ number. If no numbers seem to be available write down the IRQ of a resource that you can later disable, such as an USB controller.
  3. Open the Properties page for Venturecom RTX.
  4. Right-click on the 7831R (which should now be under RTX) and select "Properties"
  5. In the IRQ field type in the IRQ number that you want the 7831R to use.
  6. Select OK and Apply
  7. Now remove RTX support for the 7831R and go to windows device manager and update the driver.
  8. The board should then appear under Ni-RIO device
  9. Go back to the RTX properties page and add RTX support for the 7831R again and update the driver in windows device manager.
  10. Confirm in device manager that the 7831R is now using the IRQ that you assigned in the IRQ field of the 7831R property page.
  11. If you selected an IRQ for the device that is sharing a resource you don't mind disabling go ahead and disable the other device.
