Why Can't I Save my Instrument Configuration Settings in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX)?

Primary Software: Utility Software>>Measurement & Automation Explorer
Primary Software Version: 1.0.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: Driver Software>>NI-VISA

Problem:
I used NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) to configure my instrument using the following steps:
  1. Open a VISA Test Panel and select the Property Node (Set) tab.
  2. Select the property to change in the Attribute Name drop-down and enter the new value in the New Value text box.
  3. Click the Execute button.
  4. Confirm that the new value is set by clicking the View All Settable Attributes button.
  5. Close the test panel and click Save on the VISA Resource's General tab.
When I reopen the VISA Test Panel, the values I changed have been reset to the defaults.  What have I done wrong?

Solution:
You cannot save configuration settings for your instrument by using the VISA Test Panel in MAX.  When you use the Open VISA Test Panel, any attributes you change only stay changed as long as that test panel is open.  Clicking the Save button only saves any changes to the instrument configuration in MAX, such as VISA aliases or port settings.

If you need to programmatically change the values of configuration settings for your instrument, you can use a VISA Property Node in LabVIEW.  More information on VISA Property Nodes can be found in the LabVIEW 8.5 Help.
