Only One Analyzer at a Time Is Active Among Multiple "Plus" Boards in a Single Computer

Hardware: GPIB>>Plug-in Controllers>>AT-GPIB/TNT+, GPIB>>Plug-in Controllers>>PCI-GPIB+, GPIB>>Plug-in Controllers>>PCMCIA-GPIB+

Problem:
I have more than one "plus" board (AT-GPIB/TNT+, PCI-GPIB+, or PCMCIA-GPIB+) installed in a single computer, such that each card operates on its own GPIB bus. Can all of the analyzers be used to capture bus traffic on each individual bus? If not, how do I switch between analyzer hardware on a particular bus?

Solution:
Unfortunately, you cannot capture bus traffic on each individual bus at the same time. In the case in which more than one analyzer is active in a single computer, the analyzer on bus gpib0 is the one that is used when the analyzer software is used. The analyzer software does not allow multiple instances of itself to be run and does not give the ability to choose which analyzer on which board is used.

To switch between analyzer hardware on a particular bus, follow the directions for your operating system:

Windows 2000/XP:
Although you can open the GPIB Analyzer from either GPIB+ board in MAX, it is only connected to one of the boards at a time. It is usually connected to the first one listed (normally GPIB0). In order to switch GPIB Analyzer to the other board, you must uninstall the board it is currently connected to. You can do this in two ways:
  1. Right-click on the board in Windows Device Manager and select "Uninstall".
  2. Right-click on the board in MAX and select "Delete Interface".
GPIB Analyzer will then automatically connect to the remaining installed GPIB+ board. You can then redetect the uninstalled board in two ways:
  1. In Windows Device Manager select "Action»Scan for hardware changes"
  2. Select "Start»Settings»Control Panel»Add hardware"

Windows 95/98:
Open the Device Manager by browsing to Start » Settings » Control Panel » System and select the analyzer portion of your GPIB board. Remember that each "plus" board has two entries in the Device Manager: one that says (Analyzer) and one that says (Controller). You want to select the one that says (Analyzer). Click the Properties button and look at the Device Usage part of the General tab (at the bottom). Check the box for "Disable in this hardware profile" and uncheck the box for "Exists in all hardware profiles" to disable the analyzer hardware for that board. Click the OK button to save those settings. Restart your computer for the new settings to take effect.

Windows 3.x and Windows NT:
Only the AT-GPIB/TNT+ is supported under Windows 3.x. Simply use the GPIB Configuration Utility to change the board type from AT-GPIB/TNT+ to AT-GPIB/TNT(PnP) to disable the analyzer hardware for a given board. You can similarly choose the non-"plus" version of the AT-GPIB/TNT+ or the PCI-GPIB+ in Windows NT. (The PCMCIA-GPIB+ is not supported under Windows NT.)
