Using NI-FGEN with Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0

Problem:
How do I write an application in Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 that uses the National Instruments NI-FGEN driver? Are there any examples that I can use?

Solution:
The National Instruments FGEN driver does support using Visual Basic 6.0. To use the NI-FGEN driver within Visual Basic all you need to do is include the NI-FGEN library with your Visual Basic 6.0 project. To include the NI-FGEN driver please take the following steps:
  1. From within Visual Basic 6.0, go to Project » References.
  2. Click the Browse button
  3. Navigate to the following location: C:\Program Files\IVI\Bin\niFgen_32.dll
If you are looking for NI-FGEN examples for Visual Basic 6.0, many of them are installed with the driver. The examples can be located by going to Start » Programs » National Instruments » NI-FGEN » Examples » Visual Basic or by navigating to C:\Program Files\IVI\Drivers\niFgen\Examples\VisualBasic.

If you are having trouble finding the Visual Basic 6.0 examples, it might be due to not properly installing support for Microsoft Visual Basic when you installed the NI-FGEN driver. For proper installation, it is recommended that you already have Visual Basic 6.0 installed prior to installing the NI-FGEN driver. The driver will automatically install the Visual Basic 6.0 examples and support if it sees that Visual Basic is installed on the system. If you have installed the driver before you installed Visual Basic or still don't see the examples, all you need to do is modify the NI-FGEN driver install to include Visual Basic support. This can be done by taking the following steps:
  1. Go to Start » Settings » Control Panel.
  2. Select Add or Remove Programs.
  3. In the list, Select National Instruments Software.
  4. In the next list, Select NI-FGEN and click Modify.
  5. Verify that you have selected to install support for Visual Basic
