How Do I Determine the Number of DMA Channels on an S Series DAQ Device?

Hardware: Multifunction DAQ (MIO)>>S Series

Problem:
How do I determine the number of DMA channels on an S series DAQ device?

Solution:
The majority of S Series devices have 3 DMA channels, however, there are a couple exceptions. All of the S series devices have 3 DMA channels except the PCI-6154 and the PXIe-6124. These two devices have 4 and 6 DMA channels, respectively.

The DAQ Device Property Node can be used to find the number of DMA channels on a NI-DAQ Device.  Attached is the LabVIEW 8.2.1 VI used to determine the number of DMA channels on a DAQ device.  The steps to produce this VI are also detailed below.
Steps to set up DAQ Device Property Node for DMA Channels:
  1. Right click on Block Diagram and choose Measurement I/O»NI-DAQmx»Advanced»System Setup»Device Node.
  2. Expand property node so that there are two properties
  3. Click on the first property and select ActiveDev.
  4. Right click on the input of ActiveDev and create constant.  Select the your S series device from the drop  down menu.
  5. Click on second property and choose Properties » Bus » Number of DMA Channels
  6. Right click on the NumDMAChans output and create indicator.

  7. Run the program and view the DMA channels on the front panel.
