PID Control with the LabVIEW Control Design Toolkit

Primary Software: LabVIEW Development Systems>>Full Development System
Primary Software Version: 7.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
I want to design a PID controller, but I cannot find a PID VI in the Control Design Function Palette. Can I implement a PID controller with the Control Design Toolkit?

Solution:
Note: The Control Design Toolkit is not supported in LabVIEW 8.5. The Control Design Toolkit has been merged with the Simulation Module and is now the Control Design and Simulation Module. See the links section of this document for more information.

Yes, you can implement PID control with the Control Design Toolkit. Use the CD Construct Special Model VI, located in the Control Design»Model Construction sub-palette, to create commonly used transfer function models including three forms of the PID controller:
  1. PID Academic
  2. PID Parallel
  3. PID Series.
For more information about the PID transfer function models that can be created with this VI, refer to the LabVIEW Control Design Toolkit user manual linked below.

You can also find a PID shipping example by browsing the Example Programs using the Example Finder as follows:
  1. Browse the Example Finder according to task
  2. navigate to Toolkits and Modules » Control Design » Classical Synthesis » CDEx PID Design.vi.
