PID Control with the LabVIEW Control Design and Simulation Module

Problem:
I want to design a PID controller, but I cannot find a PID VI in the Control Design Function Palette. Can I implement a PID controller with the Control Design and Simulation Module?

Solution:
You can implement PID control with the Control Design and Simulation Module. Use the CD Construct PlD Model VI, located in the Control Design»Model Construction sub-palette, to create three forms of a PID controller:
  • PID Academic
  • PID Parallel
  • PID Series
For more information about the PID transfer function models that can be created with this VI, refer to the LabVIEW Control Design User Manual.

You can find a PID shipping example by browsing the Example Programs using the Example Finder as follows:
  1. Browse the Example Finder according to task
  2. Navigate to Toolkits and Modules»Control and Simulation»Control Design»Analytical PID Design»CDEx Design and Implement PID Controller.vi
The PID controller can also be implemented by adding each of the terms in the simulation loop as demonstrated in the Developer Zone Community example listed below

Note: In LabVIEW 8.2 and earlier the Control Design and Simulation Module was divided into two parts: the Control Design Toolkit and the Simulation Module.  For LabVIEW 8.5 they were combined into the Control Design and Simulation Module.
