How to Install the TEDS Library into LabVIEW

Primary Software: LabVIEW Development Systems>>LabVIEW Full Development System
Primary Software Version: 7.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
How do I properly install the TEDS Library into LabVIEW 7.1 or later?

Solution:
The teds_library.zip file contains various .mnu, .tdl, and .llb files that you may not be sure where to store. The following instructions will step you through the process of getting the TEDS Library properly installed on your computer:

  1. Login with your ni.com profile at MyNI.
    • This is necessary prior to downloading the library.
  2. Download the teds_library.zip from TEDS Library and save it onto your desktop.
  3. Create a new folder on your desktop in which to extract the contents of the zip file.
  4. Double-click on the teds_library.zip file and extract the contents to the new folder you created on the desktop.
  5. The new folder should now contain two folders, National Instruments and LabVIEW 7.1.
    • Note: If you are using a later version of LabVIEW, you must rename this folder to reflect the current version number so that the files are inserted properly into your current LabVIEW folder.
  6. Go to Start » My Computer and locate the National Instruments directory on your computer.
    • Typically the National Instruments directory is created in C:\Program Files by default when you install LabVIEW or other NI software.
  7. Drag and drop the National Instruments folder from the desktop into the directory that contains the National Instruments folder on your computer.
  8. A dialog window should appear, stating This folder already contains a folder named 'National Instruments'. Click Yes to All.
    • This will create the new path of directories in which the template files will be stored. This will not overwrite any of the folders or files that already existed in the original National Instruments folder. It will merely add to it.
  9. Now locate the directory under My Computer in which the original LabVIEW X.Y directory resides.
    • This is generally C:\Program Files\National Instruments.
  10. Drag and drop the LabVIEW folder from the desktop into the National Instruments folder on your computer.
  11. A dialog window should appear, stating This folder already contains a folder named 'LabVIEW X.Y'. Click Yes to All.
  12. Close LabVIEW if it is open, and relaunch it.
  13. Open a function palette from a LabVIEW block diagram. The TEDS subpalette should now appear on the Measurement I/O subpalette.
