How Do I Use the TestStand FTP Step Type?
Primary Software: TestStand
Primary Software Version: 3.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A
Problem: I would like to download files from an FTP site using the built in FTP Step Type in TestStand (3.1 and later), but I can't figure out how to configure the step correctly.
Solution: When configuring the FTP step type, there are four common mistakes:
- The hostname is just the name of the FTP site. Do not include
ftp://
- The terminology of the step type is referencing an FTP server on a real-time system. If you would like to get files from your server, choose Upload from Remote System. If you would like to put files on your FTP server, choose Download to Remote System.
- When selecting your remote path, use only / (forward-slashes) to denote sub-folders.
- The file structure on your server and local machines must match. Note that the FTP step type cannot create folders on either your local system or your remote system.
In the following example, a file is being downloaded from the FTP site ftp.ni.com to the folder C:\FTPFiles. But because the file is in a sub-folder under ftp.ni.com, the same subfolder must already exist on the local machine, or the step will produce an error.
